HemoCue microcuvettes are single-use plastic reaction vessels pre-coated with dry reagents used with HemoCue analyzers to quickly and quantitatively measure parameters like hemoglobin, white blood cells (WBC), or glucose from a small whole blood sample.
How They Are Used
• Sample Collection: A small blood sample (typically about 10 μL) is collected via capillary sampling (fingerstick), venous blood, or arterial blood. For a fingerstick, the first 2 to 3 drops of blood are wiped away, and the microcuvette is filled directly using the next forming drop.
• Capillary Action: When the tip of the microcuvette touches the blood drop, capillary action draws the exact volume needed into the optical cavity automatically.
• Reaction: The inner walls of the microcuvette contain dry reagents that mix spontaneously with the blood sample.
