Never use quicklime (CaO) — it can burn mycelium and is unsafe.
Correct usage for sawdust substrate (oyster mushrooms)
Since you’re working with sawdust + bran in Ghana, this is the standard rate:
Hydrated lime: 0.5–1% of dry substrate weight
Example:
100 kg dry sawdust → 0.5–1 kg hydrated lime
Mix it dry with sawdust and bran first, then add water.
Final substrate pH should be around 6.5–7.5.
