With a Second class Upper degree in Food Science and Technology from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Ghana (KNUST), I have gone through series of training that, have really helped to sharpen my skills and deepen my knowledge when it comes to the Food Industry or any manufacturing industry. As a result of eight years of work experience in quality assurance and control, health and safety and production, I believe I possess the necessary skills to thrive and excel in any area that involves food quality, food safety, as well as health and safety. This is evidenced by the fact that, not only have I undergone different trainings under these fields, but I also have certificates such as a HACCP certificate for food manufacturing, ISO 22000 and an IOSH (Institution of occupational safety and health) Managing Safely certificate to deepen my repertoire. My knowledge on total quality management has also helped to broaden my horizon, which has given me the ability to operate in any industry such as food, cosmetics and any manufacturing industry, as far as quality assurance, quality control and health and safety are concerned. In addition to this, I also have experience when it comes to inspection of GMPs (good manufacturing practices) on a food production line, as well as conducting internal food safety audits for various departments of food organization. Some of these departments include production, logistics, warehouse /stores, purchasing and procurement. My expertise on food safety management systems such as HACCP, ISO 22000, FSSC 22000 and quality management systems such as ISO 9001 also gives me an advantage. I am also good when it comes to control of records and documents, developing standard operating procedures and inspection of packaging materials (cartons and in-liners). I am also in charge of ensuring that everyone in the organization adheres to all policies and procedures (food safety and health and safety) and understands the importance of meeting statutory and regulatory requirements. In my current job, my other responsibilities include carrying out GMP and health and safety trainings for people, inspection of shipment containers for loading of finished products, preparation of CoAs (certificate of analysis), coordinating the activities of the labs (physicochemical, bean lab, sensory and micro lab) and releasing of finished products to logistics for shipment to our customers. Some of these customers include, Theobroma, Tachibana, Amerra, Sucden, S&D, Blommer, Chocodux, Facta, Itochu and Kallas just to name a few. I am also in charge of ensuring that all raw materials that come into the factory such as the cocoa beans, packaging materials and any other materials which have an impact on food safety are free from contamination, defects and any form of allergens. My work activities also involve data entries as well as calculation of Z-scores for internal proficiency test results as well as assisting the quality manager in developing the quality assurance and control budget for the year. My other responsibilities are in health and safety, which include identifying health and safety hazards and carrying out risk assessments, carrying out incident/accident investigations, carrying out routine workplace inspections to identify near misses, unsafe acts and unsafe conditions, helping the Health and Safety manager to carry out fire/emergency drills, ensuring that all the emergency and safety procedures are adhered to, ensuring that all fire extinguishers are serviced and refilled periodically, issuing of permits (permit to work) for high risk jobs such as hot work, work at height and high hazard electrical work and training employees, interns and visitors in occupational health and safety practices. To add to this, I also carry out risk assessments for all employees in their different departments such as QA, logistics, production and also update and review the environmental impact assessment as and when. I also have responsibilities in production such as making sure that all production equipment is properly serviced and maintained, making sure there is enough material for filling and packaging activities, making sure that all planned maintenance work is carried out on time, ensuring that all production machines are calibrated to maintain productivity levels, maintaining production and quality records, ensuring that production target levels are achieved without compromising quality and food safety and finally, analyzing online production results and supervising the production machine operators to make necessary changes in order for products to meet required customer specifications. Some of the certificates I have are, HACCP certificate in food manufacturing, COSSH (control of substances hazardous to health, FSSC 22000 internal audit training, ISO 22000 internal audit training, GLP (good laboratory practices), Lab Quality management and IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) Managing Safely Certificate. My main reason for wanting to leave my current job is the desire for a bigger platform to execute my full potential. With well-honed interpersonal skills blended with team spirit and can-do attitude, I also believe I have what it takes to be on top of any challenging task in the food industry.
