Limit switch is an electromechanical device that detects the presence, absence, position, or end movement of an object. It operates when a moving part (like a door, machine arm, or conveyor) comes into physical contact with the actuator (lever, plunger, roller, etc.) of the switch.
A mechanical actuator (like a lever or plunger) is physically triggered by the object.
This causes the internal electrical contacts to either open or close a circuit.
It’s commonly used for:
Position detection
Safety interlocking
End-of-travel signaling
Counting or control logic
