Damp Proof Membrane, often referred to as DPM, is a high puncture-resistant polythene suited for use in the building and construction industry. It is an extremely durable water, moisture and vapour resistant plastic. Its main purpose is to prevent absorption of water and moisture from the foundation and floors of buildings - a phenomenon called rising damp, which causes damage to walls in the form of peeling paint, flaky masonry (plaster) rot, spots, green algae ('apotobibire'), and cracks.
DPM will help prevent any damp issues and help resolve pre-existing damp problems. In older houses where there may not be any DPM laid in the foundations, damage to walls and poor indoor air quality are prevalent. Retrofitting Damp Proof Membrane is an effective way to protect against damp, water and moisture absorption and their attendant problems
