A Damp Proof Course (DPC) is a horizontal material that is applied at foundation stage in construction to prevent wet, flaky, 'rotten', spotty, cracked, and peeling walls. These manifestations of rising damp, as the problem is commonly called, affect cement- and mortar-based walls in all kinds of structures - houses, fences, markets, schools, offices, etc.- and is seen in every village, town, city, district and region in Ghana. Rising damp is not only unsightly (an eyesore) but, if not treated, also damages walls in the long run.
Rising damp occurs when foundations of structures absorb water and moisture from the ground and travels up the walls through capillary action. The material is black and offered in rolls measuring 18 centimetres (7 inches) wide by 30 meters (1181 inches) long and 500 microns thick. It is sourced from a manufacturer that services markets in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand
