A medical physiotherapy ultrasound machine (also known as a therapeutic ultrasound device) is a non-invasive, electrotherapy instrument used in rehabilitation settings to promote soft tissue healing, reduce pain, and increase local blood circulation. Unlike diagnostic ultrasound, which creates images of the body, these machines use high-frequency, inaudible sound waves (typically 1–3 MHz) to generate thermal or mechanical effects inside deep tissues, such as muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joint capsules.
