Purpose: To rinse the eyes and face after contamination, preventing serious injury or permanent damage. Activation: The user activates the station, often by a simple push plate or foot pedal, which turns on a continuous flow of water. Water stream: The water stream is aerated to provide a gentle, but effective flow, and must run for at least 15 minutes to thoroughly flush the eyes. The water should be tepid, ideally between \(16\) and \(38\) °C (\(60\) and \(100\) °F). Accessibility: Stations must be located in areas that are free of obstructions and easily accessible in an emergency.
