How It Works
1. Sample preparation: Molecules (for example DNA fragments or proteins) are mixed with a loading buffer and placed in small wells of a gel matrix (agarose or polyacrylamide).
2. Electric field: When the machine is turned on, it applies a controlled electrical current across the gel.
3. Migration: Negatively charged molecules move toward the positive electrode. Smaller or more highly charged molecules migrate faster, so the sample components spread out by size/charge.
