The car steering rack converts the circular turning motion of your steering wheel into side-to-side (linear) movement that steers the front wheels.
Main Functions
• Motion Conversion: A small gear called the pinion (attached to the steering column) rotates when you turn the steering wheel and meshes with the toothed metal bar of the rack, sliding it left or right.
• Wheel Direction Control: The ends of the steering rack connect to tie rods, which push and pull the steering knuckles to pivot the front wheels.
• Power Steering Support: In hydraulic or electric power steering systems, the rack houses or integrates components (like a fluid cylinder or electric motor) that multiply your steering effort so turning the wheel requires less strength.
• Road Feedback: It transfers tactile feedback from the road surface back up
