FUNCTIONS:
1. Stores transmission fluid – Holds the transmission oil required for lubrication and cooling.
2. Collects returning fluid – Receives fluid as it circulates through the transmission system.
3. Helps cool the transmission – The sump helps dissipate heat from the transmission fluid.
4. Supports the transmission filter – In many automatic transmissions, the filter is mounted inside the sump.
5. Protects internal components – Seals the bottom of the transmission and keeps dirt, water, and debris out.
6. Provides a drain point – Some gearbox sumps have a drain plug for fluid servicing and maintenance.
WHY IT MUST BE REPLACED:
1 Cracked or damaged sump.2
2 Severe corrosion or rust.
3 Fluid leaks due to damage or warped sealing surfaces.
4 Damaged drain plug threads.
