The 2016 Honda Civic utilizes two Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensors to monitor the cooling system and communicate with the engine control module (ECM). If you are troubleshooting an overheating engine, a check engine light, or an erratic dashboard temperature gauge, you may need to check or replace one of these specific units.
Sensor Locations & Functions
ECT Sensor 1 (Engine Block/Cylinder Head): This sensor is located on the right end of the engine's cylinder head, positioned directly behind the coolant pipe. It measures the temperature of the coolant exiting the engine block to help the computer regulate fuel injection and ignition timing.
ECT Sensor 2 (Radiator Tank): This sensor is mounted directly into the lower radiator tank, right next to the lower radiator hose. It is primarily responsible for telling the ECM when to acti
